No Tux for Me

This item was filled under [ Fun ]

This past weekend was Robs official “me weekend”; which meant no grand plans and no obligations to do anything. We got my laptop back from FutureShop on Friday; they claim there are no problems with charging or keeping power, I hope they’re right. Sometime this summer I will be moving into a new position as a Network Administrator, and one of my duties will involve a small linux server running some network management tools. I thought I would brush up on my linux and install it on the laptop. After all, most of the programs I use are cross-platform anyway (firefox, thunderbird, gimp, and openoffice). Eight hours after the initial install I still didn’t have my wireless card working, and the scant information I could find made it apparent I would have to jump through hoops to get it up. As much as I love to tinker, I just wanted my gosh-darned laptop up and running so I could get to work. It only took me two hours to install XP Home on Sunday and get my wireless card working. I would love to be able to run Linux on my laptop, but until easy PCMCIA wireless is part of the package I’ll stick to Micro$oft.
