2 cups white sugar<br />
1 tsp vanilla<br />
1 tsp salt<br />
8 tsp cocoa<br />
3-4 cups oatmeal</p>
<p>In a saucepan heat the shortening, milk, and sugar just to a boil. Stir for 1 minute and turn off the heat. Quickly add the other ingredients; add the oatmeal until the mixture is thick and sticky, but not too dry. Let sit for one minute, then scoop onto waxed paper to finish cooling.</p>

  Empty cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Mix well. Add 1/2 cup butter or<br />
  margarine, softened. Add one slightly beaten egg, and one tsp. vanilla. Mix<br />
  well. Shape into walnut-sized balls and place two inches apart on greased<br />
  cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes, until tops are very<br />
  lightly browned. Cool on sheets five minutes, then transfer to racks to<br />
  finish cooling.</p>
