WOD – April 9 & 10, 2009

April 9

Active rest. 20 min snowshoeing with my friend Peter. There is just enough snow left in the woods for snowshoeing. Methinks that next week it might be gone.

April 10

Run 5km.

I still hate running, but I do it anyway. Running with my dog isn’t quite as bad, I guess. This was so cute; we got to about the 4.5km mark and I was feeling pretty beat when I felt a little wet nose touch my hand and a little wet tongue slip out and give me the slightest lick. We sprinted the last 100m. I don’t even know what my time was and I don’t care.

Here’s my route:

WOD – April 8, 2009

I had to make the hard decision between running or strength work for the WOD today. Hard my ass! With the long weekend approaching I’m sure I’ll drag myself out with the dog and get more running in later this week (blargh).

CFWU x 3
Shoulder warmup – 45# x 3
Shoulder Press: 1 x 5 – 50#, 55#, 60#, 65#, 70#(fail), 70#(fail)
Push Press: 3 x 5 – 45#, 50#, 55#, 60#, 65#
Push Jerk: 5 x 5 – 45#, 50#, 55#, 60#, 65#

I’m happy with my shoulders. A few weeks ago I failed at 60#, so I’m making decent improvements and hopefully it won’t be long before I can do an 80# press again.

WOD – April 2, 2009

Today is an “active rest” day. It’s like a rest day, but you still do some activity of low to moderate intensity. It could be a walk or jog, a sport, a hike.

I did 30 minutes of snowshoeing with my friend Peter. We saw lots of deer tracks, but the only live creature I saw on the trails was a spider.

Kiva Loan Results

The comments that I received online and offline regarding my last post were overwhelmingly in favour of the widow, Liliana Brigges.

I guess I should have acted faster, as she’s already raised her full loan amount! In the spirit of the feedback from my contest, I choose a very similar woman to loan to.

Elizabeth Broni is a widow raising four children. She works as an independent caterer/baker on the Cape Coast of Ghana. My loan will help her purchase more supplies like flour, sugar, and yeast.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Maybe in another three or four months I’ll be able to re-loan to another deserving business.
